WHAT ABOUT SINOPHARM VACCINE?

Sino pharm, a Chinese state-owned business, is working on two Covid-19 vaccines, which are inactivated vaccines that work similarly to Sinovac. On December 30, Sino pharm claimed that phase three studies of the vaccine revealed that it was 79 percent effective, which is lower than Pfizer and Moderna. According to intermediate results of its phase three study, the United Arab Emirates, which approved a Sino pharm vaccine earlier this month, the vaccination was 86 percent effective.

According to a Reuters storey, a corporate representative declined to explain the disparity and stated that detailed results would be given later. However, the vaccine had already been distributed to roughly a million individuals in China under an emergency programme before the phase three study results were released.

Professor Dale Fisher, of the National University of Singapore, said then that it was "unconventional" to ramp up a vaccine program without first going through last stage trials.

"It is normal to wait for an analysis of phase three trials before ramping up a vaccine program through emergency use authorisation," he told news site CNBC. Peru had already halted testing for the Sino pharm vaccine in December due to a "severe adverse event" involving a volunteer. It later stated that the suspension has been lifted. It's not uncommon for a clinical trial to come to a halt. After a participant had a potential adverse response, the UK suspended trials for another Covid-19 vaccine in September, restarting after the vaccine was ruled out as the cause. The coronavirus has been controlled for the most part in China, and life is slowly but steadily returning to a "new normal."

Any other vaccine candidates?

According to a recent piece in The Conversation, at least two more Covid-19 vaccines are being developed in China. Can Sino Biologics is one among them, and it is said to be in phase three clinical trials in places like Saudi Arabia. Anhui Zhifei Longcom is working on the other one. According to the study, the vaccine employs a pure portion of the virus to trigger an immune response and is currently in phase three testing.

Which countries are signing up for China's vaccines?

Several Asian countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, have signed agreements with Sinovac, and Indonesia began a mass vaccination campaign using their vaccine in January 2021. The Sinovac vaccine has also been licenced for emergency use in Turkey. Other agreements with Brazil and Chile are also reported to have been signed by the corporation. The Sino pharm vaccine has been licenced by the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
